Block Entertainment Launches “Don’t Block the Vote” Campaign:

Russell “Big Block” Spencer Creates Video Blog Series Aimed at Educating Urban Voters

Atlanta, GA: October 14, 2008-Russell “Big Block” Spencer, CEO of Block Entertainment, has launched the Don’t Block the Vote campaign to encourage voter participation in the upcoming election on November 4th. The campaign is a series of weekly video messages covering various topics surrounding voting in the 2008 Presidential election including; registration deadlines, former felon eligibility rights, determining your polling location, and what not to wear to the polls. According to Big Block, “Don’t Block the Vote is my way of encouraging my community to go to the polls and make history!”

The video blogs will simultaneously premiere on the Block Entertainment and Bad Boy YouTube Channels as well as the dedicated www.dontblockthevote.com site to be launched next week. Prominent urban entertainment site, SOHH Atlanta, will also be partnering with the DBTV efforts by co-premiering new webisodes each week on its homepage and blog. The weekly DBTV webisodes will create a forum to post comments on the video blogs, political debates, and numerous issues affecting the community. The first video premiered on Monday, October 6th, encouraging eligible United States citizens to register by their state’s deadline in order to be able to vote. Each following video will premiere weekly on Tuesdays leading up to the November 4th presidential election.

The DBTV campaign will conclude on Tuesday, November 4th with transportation provided for local citizens of Atlanta to the polls, and a voter celebration event to be held at the Block Entertainment Studio.

Russell “Big Block” Spencer and Block Entertainment recording artist, Gorilla Zoe, showed their commitment to the cause by leading their community by example when both recently registered to vote at voter registration rallies hosted in Atlanta.

The Song:

Damn. A good woman is hard to find these days. On the latest free track preceding the release of A People Like Us, it sounds like Eyezon slipped up and let a good one go. In “Out O’ Mines,” he compliments her for being with him through good and bad and lets her know she’s missed. Really missed. He may be laying it on thick with lines like “You pretty when you cry / But I never meant to cause you pain,” but sometimes you have to beg a little bit to win back what you lost. Eyezon’s verses and flow are strong on the track, but the production from Sean Lane really stands out, functioning as a picture frame, outlining the lyrical snapshots Eyezon delivers. Lane uses an old soul sample and some foggy distortion to give everything a nostalgic, underwater feeling that makes you wanna hug it out and talk about the good ol’ days with the one that got away.

The Background:

“Eyezon delivers his lyrics with a religious conviction, but is blessed with a great sense of timing. He has the ability to alter his rhyme schemes constantly, but without losing sight of the cadence of the mystery man’s beats.” – RapReviews.com

Eyezon, the South-African born, Northern California resident is set to envelop new fans in an album that delves into life, love, loss, and struggle on his sophomore full-length A People Like Us. The album will be released on January 27, 2009 on Interdependent Media. With A People Like Us, Eyezon touches on variety of subjects, including the dangers and racism that were rampant in South Africa during his childhood as well as common issues of love, loss, abortion, and homelessness. When asked about A People Like Us, Eyezon says the title was a reflection of “the struggles that a common people can relate to.” The album is brimming with the depth of emotion, vibrancy, and insight that is often put on the backburner in mainstream hip-hop albums.
