The Song:

“So Tough” is the latest gem to be exhumed from Crazy Like A Foxxx, Bumpy Knuckles’ long awaited release. For fans that have waited the past fourteen years to hear this material, Freddie Foxxx delivers again. “So Tough” is a gritty, raw track as per Foxxx’s usual style. Though the beat and lyrics are hard-hitting, the track is meant to be inspirational rather than intimidating. Foxxx speaks to the people, telling them not to give in to the hardships brought on by racism. Foxxx implores listeners to remain strong despite being put down by the man, especially (but not limited to) those wrongfully imprisoned and beat down based on outdated prejudice, saying “We went from African kings to Martin Luther King / now they wanna make us all Rodney King.” Foxxx lets the audience know that “When the going gets rough / You gotta get tough” which is exactly what he has done over the course of his tumultuous career in the music business.

The Background:

Freddie Foxxx’s Crazy Like A Foxxx was recorded in the early ’90s in New York and intended for an official release by MCA. However, for reasons unknown, the album was shelved after promotional cassettes were serviced to radio and press. This newly remastered release includes both the 1993 demo version on Disc 2 and the 1994 completed version of the album on Disc 1. Largely written for the emcee’s friends in prison, the album has ominous overtones and provides insight into Bumpy’s dark state of mind at that time period. The album is a veritable time capsule from the early 1990’s, with guest spots from legends such as 2Pac, Chuck D, and Kool G Rap as well as production from from D.I.T.C.’s Showbiz, Lord Finesse, and Buckwild. Crazy Like A Foxxx is available from Fat Beats Records now.

Legendary New York Producer, Ayatollah, preps his digital-only instrumental album, DRUM MACHINE on Nature Sounds.

Producing incredible beats is nothing new to hip-hop veteran Ayatollah.  Although probably most known for his contribution to Mos Def’s “Ms. Fat Booty”, ‘Tollah has crafted classics for some of the best MCs to ever touch the microphone like Rakim, The Wu-Tang Clan, Talib Kweli, D-Block, Pharoahe Monch, and many more. Ayatollah has even been compared to (and probably has influenced) such heavyweight producers such as RZA, Just Blaze and Kanye West to name a few.

This fall, Ayatollah is set to drop yet another installment of 22 never before heard tracks laced by the legendary beat smith himself.  While his vintage soulful sound is synonymous with classic golden era hip-hop, the music’s timeless quality stands strong against any of today’s biggest hits. Drum Machine, a musical ode to the tool of his trade, is a must for any producer, DJ, MC or hip-hop enthusiast.  Ayatollah’s Drum Machine will be available for digital download on 9.30.08 at all fine online retailers.

New York, NY – This Wednesday, September 10th, Kidz In The Hall’s second video off their critically acclaimed album, The In Crowd, will world premier on the biggest video network in the world. MTV’s popular countdown show, TRL, will give a “first look” to “Love Hangover,” the second single off Kidz In The Hall’s sophomore album, released on Major League/Duck Down Records. The song and video features rising superstar and UK songstress Estelle, who linked up with Naledge and Double 0 last year while recording the group’s album.

Earlier this year, Kidz In The Hall released their first single and video, “Drivin’ Down the Block,” which crept all the way up to #6 on TRL’s countown, breaking ground and leading the way for a generation of new, young, independent hip hop artists. The video was also in heavy rotation on MTV Jams and MTV2 and the group was part of MTV’s exclusive “Discover & Download” program. Both “Drivin Down The Block” and “Love Hangover” were directed by Ethan Lader.

Currently the group is preparing for a Fall US tour after just completing Hip Hop’s biggest summer festival tour, Rock The Bells.
