The Song:

When Jaguar Skills took to Khia’s single “What They Do,” he subbed out the stomps and claps for an up-tempo electronic feel, complete with cuts and scratches, for a different kind of club. Jaguar Skills, known for last year’s Hip Hop Odyssey mixtape, spins hip-hop in the UK and mixes regularly for the BBC. A healthy complement to the original, the new beats show the versatility of Khia and Gucci Mane’s vocals on the track. For those unfamiliar with the album version, the song details what happens when good girls get bad from too much liquor and “mix their ‘Goose with Absolut / then they turn to prostitutes.” Released last month, the lead single features production from Khia and it has fed the buzz around her upcoming release Nasti Muzik.

The Background:

Born in Philadelphia and raised in Tampa, Florida, Khia now resides in Atlanta. Khia has been writing and singing rap, R&B and gospel her whole life. Her first brush with the hip-hop club scene began when she bartended at the trend setting club XS in Tampa. The bar was home to Wild 98.7 and served as the venue for the hottest local DJ and club shows. When Khia’s mother passed away in 2000 from kidney failure, Khia used her grief as a catalyst to kick her music career into action. In 2002 Khia wrote, produced, and released her debut album Thug Misses. Distributed by Artemis Records, but with no major label contract deal, Khia found success on her own terms despite not having “Top 40″ radio play or PR team to gain exposure for her album. The now infamous single, “My Neck, My Back,” has sold 100,000 units to date and has been featured on numerous television shows and feature films. In 2005, she released her sophomore album Gangstress, which featured the single “Snatch the Cat Back.” Khia has also been featured on the Janet Jackson’s “So Excited” and Trick Daddy’s “Jodd.” Most recently Khia was featured on VH1’s Miss Rap Supreme and had an ongoing column with Allhiphop.com. Nasti Muzik was produced by Khia, Marlon “Big Cat” Rowe and Melvin “Birdman” Breeden. The album will be released on July 22, 2008.

The Song:

It’s been six years since Peaches grabbed our attention with her tangy sexual explosion entitled “F*ck The Pain Away.” She’s back with another raunchy track that is a certified booty shaker. As part of Delicious Vinyl’s RMXXOLOGY, Peaches has rehashed Tone Loc’s classic “Wild Thing” with an updated club flavor. The track tells the story of a hot sweaty rendezvous in a sauna. Over thumping beats and slick production Peaches fiercely proclaims, “I said let’s meet here weekly and be my summer fling / The hotter it gets, I get all wet and go crazy for the wild thing.” The track lends itself to the wild nature of a late night club scene and will not disappoint all the hip-hop heads that need a sexy club jam every once in a while.

The Background:

RMXXOLOGY features Delicious Vinyl classics by the likes of Tone-Loc, The Pharcyde, Masta Ace, The Brand New Heavies, and Born Jamericans re-imagined by artists including Peaches, Eminem, Diplo, Hot Chip, Spank Rock & Amanda Blank, Phillipians, Ed Banger’s Mr. Flash, and Bobby Evans. The singles for the album have been burning up the charts in the UK and here in the US. Please post buy links if you can!

Amalgam Digital, the independent company responsible for launching hip hop’s first genre specific digital retail store, brings on Harlem hip hop heavyweight Max B to its label brand’s artist roster. The intensely confident Max Biggaveli (aka the Silver Surfer aka Wavy Crockett) describes himself as Biggie, Jigga, and Tupac Machiavelli all rolled into one.

With skills honed from over seven years of writing lyrics in prison, he joined Harlem’s Diplomats, almost immediately upon his release. Hip hop fans took to his distinctive style and unorthodox hooks and Max B quickly evolved from a ghostwriter to the driving creative force behind a parade of hits by Jim Jones, Cam’ron, Juelz Santana, and company. To date, he is best known for “We Fly High (Ballin),” which he ghostwrote for Jones. “We Fly High” peaked at #5 on the Billboard charts, still receives heavy club play, and is the unofficial anthem of the New York Giants.

Max B joins a diverse roster of both commercially successful artists and indie hip hop classics, including Grammy-nominee Joe Budden, Peedi Crakk, Kurious, Tame One, Tash (of Tha Alkaholiks), the Juggaknots, and DJ Benzi. This venture marks Max B’s seemingly inevitable transition from an incredibly successful writer and collaborator to a bona fide superstar in his own right.

The transition was a long time coming for the rapper/MC, whose career so far has been a rollercoaster ride of controversy, success, and unfortunate legal setbacks not too mention a string of high profile feuds. Max’s relationship with the Diplomats has dissolved and he is currently involved in highly publicized feuds with Jim Jones, Juelz Santana, and Lil Wayne.

It’s difficult to hyperbolize Max B’s potential. He is a quadruple threat who can write, rap, sing, and most importantly, has the kind of overwhelming charisma that all but guarantees stardom. Max is a natural trendsetter, known for creating and popularizing several phrases that other artists have imitated such as “wavy” and “oooowwwww!” He is currently out of prison on a record setting bail for a hip hop artist at $1.5 million.

Max B had the following to say when asked about his relationship with Amalgam Digital:

“Amalgam Digital is wavy like water! We sooo wavy…. Ooooowwww!”

Max’s street release “Public Domain III: Domain Pain (The Album)”, in stores August 5th, will serve as a prelude to a forthcoming independent debut album entitled “Vigilante Season” on the Amalgam Digital label, which will in turn lead to a third, digital only album (name TBA) which will be available exclusively at www.AmalgamDigital.com. All three albums are being produced entirely by certified hitmaker Dame Grease, famous for his progressive work with live instrumentation rather than sampling as well as for his distinct work with DMX, Nas, and Freeway.
