Blue Scholars left a wall-to-wall packed crowd spittin’ their verses and wanting to hear more. The dynamic performance from the hip hop duo from Seattle was like electric, its contagious energy transmitting through every single person present, moving each spirit with musical ease.
Blue Scholars’ emcee Geologic spits with a poetic lyrical brilliance, while DJ Sabzi produces ill beats that transcend through every musical genre, resulting in a hop-hop sound all their own, and yet still resembling the classical sounds of hip-hop music.
“The Ave”, “Fire for the People,” “Back Home,” and “Still Got Love” were a few of the hot tracks performed that had the crowd in a frenzy. Blue Scholars, well known for their storytelling about struggle and the working class (hence, Blue Scholar) was formed in 2002 and has since released two albums: “Blue Scholar,” “Bayani” and a third in the works for a 2009 release.
When asked about the Hip Hop scene in Seattle, Geo describes it as “bubbling”, alluding to its musical potential, thus an area often overlooked. When asked, “What do you want listeners to know about your music?” Sabzi comments Blue Scholars’ music is the peoples’ message without being too preachy or pretentious, and that their music tells the truth, in a world where people don’t do that often, in hopes that their music channels ways to do some good.
Blue Scholars future projects include overseas traveling, an EP titled, “Butter&Gun$,” with a soon-to-be released new video titled, “Loyalty.” In the meantime, Geo and Sabzi will be touring and performing at local venues around the country.
